For True Love

Gregoraun, my true love,

She silently sent her call across the great divide of the Yelritch Mountains. Dense forests and large rivers lay in the valley, lined by the grand mountains on either side. With the forceful winds atop the highest ridge, the loose folds of her robe billowed around her.

Virgeena, are you safe?

I am fine, my love. I am returning to you to stay.

Truly? Are you not in Mesowin, the city of the ones who hate and slay my kind?

Fear not, Gregoraun. I stand on Yelritch’s ridge, far from those terrible people. I have withstood their presence for two years now, only to complete my training. Now I am a high mage and have mastered the art of transformation.

Then you have achieved the ability to be with me forever, my lovely?

Yes, it has been a difficult time, but now I have it mastered. I can be the same as you.

And you desire?

Oh, yes! I desire with all my heart, body, and soul!

Then, transform, and come to me. We shall reign together in my world forever!

Yes, Gregoraun! I will be there soon.

She broke the connection and concentrated. Raising her arms up, she closed her eyes and pulled magic upward from the ground beneath her, through her feet and into her heart. With each beat her heart grew, her legs expanded, her torso lengthened, and face elongated. Scales formed along her body, and her robe ripped apart as she outgrew it. A great tail developed, and her long hair matted together, forming large golden ridge along her back.

The ground trembled from the force of the magic coursing through her. A mist rose from all around and shrouded her great form. A great hum resonated from beneath the surface, and the air became statically charged, as all the animals and birds abandoned the area.

As the ridge and mountains grew quiet once more, the mist gradually dissipated from the uppermost reaches and revealed a magnificent reptilian head with golden eyes. As the white receded downward, a long neck covered in multi-colored scales flowed into a graceful body of the same mold.

The great dragon shook itself. Brilliantly colored wings unfolded, large and transparent, they glittered with the sun’s rays. Taking a few small jumps, the large beautiful dragon tested her wings, moving her tail side to side to gauge its guidance ability. And then with one leap and a piercing cry into the air, filled with happiness, she left the ridge and floated downward.

Beating her wings, she tried to slow her descent, but failed. Until she slowed her wings and adjusted her tail, her fall continued. She caught an air current and lifted up towards the sky, her tail brushing the treetops. She spiraled upwards, hovered above the valley, and then flew off into the west, heading across the Yelritch mountain range to a land far beyond.

Virgeena flew to join her one true love, Gregoraun.
